Buy it : Canada It’s In My DNA Shirt
Lewis had a deep understanding of the power behind the Canada It’s In My DNA Shirt spectacle, much like the founders of Black Lives Matters and the creators of today’s hashtag campaigns do. In 1965, Lewis helped organize more than 600 protesters to march with him across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Halfway across the structure, the marchers faced tear gas and intense police brutality; Lewis was bloodied and seriously injured by the end of the affair. Lewis and his fellow organizers knew that camera crews would be filming and that white Americans would see firsthand the unjust violence that peaceful protesters were facing.
